Donna's Manifesto 2021

Donna Eddy’s 2021 Manifesto…

DeInc & Posture Plus.

I believe in the power of knowledge.

“Knowing” reduces fear. Ask most people and they’ll say the fear of the unknown is real. For the past 20yrs I’ve been informing and educating patients about their pain; anatomy; daily habits and how to take that knowledge and look after themselves.

The most common response from the first session is “no one has ever explained any of this to me!” How sad - but oh so common.

One of my dear teachers, Dr Conneely (whom I did an apprenticeship style learning of most of the orthopaedic and corrective exercise drills I still use today) said often….

“why be the 100th person doing the same as the other 99?” P. Conneely

I took that and ran with it.

I do have the mantra of “be the exception” literally as a tattoo and I live by it as best I can, with a view of “play” and making life novel.

I no longer believe that clients can be left to their own devices (totally). We are both habitual and lazy by nature, always on conservation mode. This is an innate/ neurological hardwiring that we are yet to evolve out of. Though, that said with the advances in neuro-plasticity, things are changing (pun intended!)

Yes, left to our own devices we will slacken; slip; throw away and forget. One thing most patients and clients don’t realise is all good therapists and great coaches have therapists and coaches too! And seeing I’m both a tactile therapist and coach, yes, I’ve got one of each.

Those whom have been with me for more than a year or two will have seen my clinical practice and the Posture Plus program evolve as I dove in to more learning and refined my skills, distilled new knowledge and grew as a human.

And from this year (2021) I’m bringing to the forefront the movement side of what I do (which a lot of people won’t realise is 50% of what I do) AND this year will also see my service offers taking on a coaching and program based approach.

I see a world caught up… I am having deeper, more soul centred conversations, and therapy sessions with emotional releases and major perspective changes every week. And I’m loving it. Personally I did a lot of deep work in 2020. As a result I’m delightfully grounded and now excitedly clear. I’ve a new depth of confidence in my experience; skills and knowledge that I can openly let it all go. Clinically I openly share that I’m being intuitively driven/ guided and the results are becoming so profoundly deep and rewarding.

Another reason to move towards a coaching model and hold the hands of clients for a thorough transition to what I’m now labelling “intentional living” is simply volume. I’m sharing and providing information; tools etc from so many angles. All the methods and modalities; research and personal learning have enabled me to “package” up and segment what I do, into a logical (yet flexible) path to “intentional living”.

Posture Plus was my first baby, the first program and I’m excited about the new wave of Therapists taking Posture Plus in to their clinics and communities. To me, its really only just “launching” and it too is still evolving (and forever will if it remains my decision).

So with the perpetual thirst for growth, I’m seeing more clearly what I’m here to do. I’m also seeing more and more a world caught up. Caught up on stuff - caught up in doing and I put my hand up here… I was such a sucker for getting stuck in the “to dos” - a habit I’m dissolving in to more “being” - notice how many Sunrises I post nowadays? I walk my talk people.

So with this clear view of what’s going on, I’m here to be part of the solution. My purpose is to teach. I’ve done it in some form since I started coaching gymnastics at age 16.

What I know for sure too, is, experience is EVERYTHING. When you do, you know. As I mentioned above, I’ve been doing for 31yrs. And I’ve been a therapist for 22. So with all that doing, refining and distilling what I know works is this…

Daily Movement Practice is a necessity

Self- care is vital

Accountability  = consistency = success

In summary the declaration of my little manifesto here, is this.

I love teaching. I love watching people “get it”. I love feeling change in the therapeutic setting and feeling with clients as they take charge, create new habits and use their knowledge for a better life with less suffering.

I believe in listening and understanding the whole picture. Getting to know the person in front of me. Listening to ALL the impacts and life experiences which have bought them to my door, and then, only after really listening, only then, do we make plans. I emphasise the “we”, not just me - I’m just a stimulus for change. We make a plan and start the journey.

And finally,

I’m committed to both continuing my learning and developing the programs and projects I offer and have in the pipeline.

I’m committed to putting myself “out there” this year and sharing what I do; know and love with as many as I can.

My white board mantra is “to extend my reach beyond my grasp”.

So sharing this in the first week of the year, I commit to becoming omnipresent and opening my offers to all. To reaching as many people as possible and seeing the change in each with great excitement and satisfaction. 2020 was a deep dive for me, I’m emerging here in 2021 clear - ready - certain and driven.
